On Friday, February 21, 2014, attorneys and staff members from McNamee Hosea joined forces with Chip Noland, owner of Ledo’s Pizza Annapolis, and JoRhea Wright, owner of JoJo’s Cupcakes and Cream to provide and serve dinner to the residents of the Annapolis Lighthouse Shelter. The firm had a number of Annapolis and Greenbelt based employees volunteer to help serve dinner to the residents. When asked about the event, Dawn Moorehead, Bankruptcy Paralegal for McNamee Hosea said, “I had a great time. It was very coordinated and we got kudos from everyone that Ledo’s Pizza rocks!”
Each year, McNamee Hosea contributes to the Lighthouse Shelter during their back-to-school initiatives by providing school supplies and materials for a successful start to the school year. The firm also helps with the Holiday programs at the Lighthouse, contributing gifts for residence, or sponsoring a family and providing clothing and gifts for the children and parents. In order to close the gap between the holidays and the back-to-school program, the firm reached out to the shelter in January to see what other volunteering opportunities were available. Michele Marshall, Associate Director of Development for Volunteer Services informed the firm that, “at the moment, our biggest need is for volunteer groups to provide, prepare and serve dinner to 60 residents.” The shelter has open dates for volunteer groups each month.
McNamee Hosea greatly appreciates the support of Ledo’s Pizza and JoJo’s Cupcakes with their participation with this event. Natalie Booher, McNamee Hosea’s Assistant Firm Administrator added that, “it was great to see other area business get involved with this worthy cause and organization. I hope that many more organizations get involved with helping the Lighthouse Shelter in any way they can.”
The Annapolis Lighthouse Shelter functions as both a facility and program. Their mission is to help rebuild lives with compassion by providing shelter and services to prevent homelessness and empower people as they transition toward self-sufficiency. The shelter also provides emergency shelter and transitional housing for individuals and families who are homeless as well as permanent supportive housing for women.
